About this course
ASD is among the most disabling and mystifying of all childhood developmental disorders, having atypical patterns of development that affect multiple areas of functioning. Classified in the DSM-IV-TR as a Pervasive Developmental Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder is re-classified now in the DSM-5-TR as a Neurodevelopmental Disorder, and includes all of the chief autism spectrum disorders (such as Asperger's and childhood disintegrative disorder) that were covered in the DSM-IV. From this course, you will gain an understanding of the theoretical background of Autism Spectrum Disorder, including the characteristics, aetiology, risk factors, symptoms, and diagnostic criteria of the disorder. The treatment chapter shows how to utilise Applied Behavioural Analysis in the management of ASD.
