In this course, Carly Dober shares research results showing the broad effects on mental health of climate change and the consequent emotions aroused in people. She outlines the therapeutic approaches that are most effective in dealing with climate change emotions.
About this course
In this course, psychologist Carly Dober, Director and Policy Coordinator at the Australian Association of Psychologists, Inc., cites research showing both direct and indirect effects of climate change on mental health. An overwhelming majority of children and young adults have significant concerns about climate change; thus, clinicians need to know how to deal with climate-change-generated emotions. Dober discusses how ecotherapy, dialectical behaviour therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy can help to validate clients’ climate concerns and address climate-related emotions within a therapeutic context.
