About this course
In this course, you learn about not only the epidemiology, aetiology, and neurobiology of hoarding disorder, but also how to differentiate between hoarding and similar behaviours emanating from other conditions. Because there is almost no such thing as “pure” hoarding disorder, you read about the most common of the myriad co-morbidities that plague people with the diagnosis. We explore its far-reaching impact on levels from the individual to the entire community. A whole chapter is dedicated to the instruments which can screen and assess for hoarding disorder, its severity, or how it may create serious safety and health hazards for residents of hoarding homes. We also examine the all-important question of how hoarding disorder can be treated, with separate sections for how mental health professionals can work with it and techniques and tips for lay people helping those diagnosed with the disorder.
