Mindfulness-integrated Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (MiCBT) for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
Mindfulness-integrated Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (MiCBT) for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
In this course, Dr. Bruno Cayoun explains why people with OCD treated with traditional CBT may relapse and shows how MiCBT helps clients to make brain changes which facilitate maintenance of therapy gains and reduce relapse in OCD.
About this course
In this course, Dr. Bruno Cayoun, clinical psychologist and founder/director of the MiCBT Institute, briefly reviews the symptoms and mechanism of typical obsessions and compulsions experienced by people diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and shares case examples to show how treatment with traditional CBT changes behaviour but leaves the brain “wired” in the same way, thus inviting relapse. Citing evidence for impaired executive function in OCD, Dr. Cayoun explains how the theoretical framework of MiCBT integrates Vipassana (mindfulness) meditation with the Co-emergence Model of Reinforcement to improve executive functioning and reduce symptoms of OCD. MiCBT combines both imaginal and in-vivo exposure to promote a more realistic cognitive appraisal, reduce compulsions, and maintain therapy gains.
