Sitting with Aboriginal Clients: Appropriate Modalities
Sitting with Aboriginal Clients: Appropriate Modalities
In this course, five main groups of therapies are analysed for how well their primary assumptions and techniques are likely to work with a client who identifies as Aboriginal.
About this course
In this course, five groups of therapy modalities – post-modern, expressive/somatic/trauma-sensitive, person-centred and positive psychology, psychodynamic, and CBT-based – are analysed for how well their chief assumptions and techniques will work when used with Aboriginal clients. The chief concepts of each therapy are explained, followed by a discussion of how the modality may be useful and any aspects that practitioners using that modality should beware of with Aboriginal clients.
