About this course

In this course, Dr. Jonathan Singer (Ph.D., LCSW, Loyola University, Chicago, School of Social Work, Social Work Podcast) outlines the components of the three-tiered Suicide in Schools Model, showing how each element contributes to a comprehensive school-based suicide prevention strategy. Dr. Singer outlines the use of universal screening, provides guidance around the screening and assessment forms the model uses, and explains the concepts of risk status versus risk state. Intent and plan are discussed, as well as protective and risk factors, with a special note on the importance of safety planning, re-entry after hospitalisation, and postvention, when there is bereavement due to suicide.
