<p>Dr. Sue Johnson (19 Dec 1947 – 23 April 2024) was a much-beloved author, clinical psychologist, researcher, professor, popular presenter and speaker, and a leading innovator in the field of couple therapy and adult attachment.</p> <p>Sue was the primary developer of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), which has demonstrated its effectiveness in over 35 years of peer-reviewed clinical research. Sue was the founding Director of the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT) and Distinguished Research Professor at Alliant University in San Diego, California, and Professor Emeritus, Clinical Psychology, at the University of Ottawa, Canada.</p> <p>Dr. Johnson received a variety of awards acknowledging her development of EFT and international training and certification program, and other significant contributions to the field of couple and family therapy and adult attachment, including the Order of Canada and the 2022 Lifetime Achievement Award from Psychotherapy Networker.</p> <p>Dr. Johnson trained therapists in EFT worldwide and consulted for the 89 international institutes and affiliated centres that practice EFT. She also consulted for Veterans Affairs and the U.S. and Canadian militaries.</p>
